German Flak Vest, with pictures

So you want a surplus German flak vest.

Congratulations, you’re awesome.

See below the fold for pictures

Pictures can be clicked for high-rez details.

First pic:  Left is a basically “closed” vest in the wearing position.  Right is pulled open.  Right vest is also my “double-vest” with double panels scavenged from another vest.

Here’s a close-up of the open vest, this is the back panel.  See the label.  Note the zipper at the bottom.

Open vest, this is the front/chest panel.  Again, note the zipper at the bottom.

Left is an “as delivered” vest with one panel.  The zipper is opened, showing the single kevlar panel.  The right vest has two kevlar panels.

This is the single vest, with the kevlar panel removed.  I’ve also thrown a rifle plate (not included) into the picture.

And this picture shows the rifle plate in position to be attached.  I could sew it into place here, or somehow adhere a pouch onto the back of the kevlar panel, and then reinsert the panel into the vest easily enough.

    One word, gambeson.

  2. I’ll be putting my ceramic plates in mine I think. That front pocket looks just right for a flask too. Or my doubled up 30rd PMAGs. I’ll have to weigh the pros and cons of that option…

Flask….why didn’t I think of that? The front pocket holds three AR-15 mags, but you can’t quite close the velcro over them. I have a tacticool poser vest I wear that goes over the armor easily enough, otherwise covering that pouch. Maybe I should keep a copy of my last will and testament in German in that pouch, just to really confuse the hell out of anyone that comes across it.

Is this a good time to tell the story of when I went to the movies in Sweden with two very lovely sisters to watch a german vampire movie with danish subtitles? Talk about confusing.

Caohaoim: If you can’t provide pictures, I’m frankly not too interested in your story.

Note: If you can find “comparably representative” pictures online, that should work just fine. I’m sorry, I don’t read (and occasionally contribute to) this blog just for the stories, you know.

Note to self: Contribute to blog.

Note to self, #2: Stop being an ass.

Alas no pics from July of ‘79. My camera had been stolen the week before. I suppose I could scan my passport photo from then and photoshop that between Elke Sommer and Barbara Eden.

  7. BLT,
Another one of us contributes to my blog as “an ass” so he’s getting his efficiency down pat. Actually he posts picture of hot asian chicks. Over and over and over again…

I try to cross-post… but I’m usually too lazy.
