Reflections on Today’s Headlines

In case you’ve been living under a rock you are well aware of what has occurred in Connecticut today. I’ve been flipping through news channels and looking at Facebook and I’ve been getting an eye and an earful. The rhetoric flying from the right and the left is hitting a fever pitch that is really beginning to concern me. And I mean seriously concern me.

I highly recommend that everyone take a deep breath and let the dust settle for a couple of days. Because the national conversation right now is not healthy. It’s perhaps the most angry and divisive stuff I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen some nasty stuff in our political discourse since I first became politically aware thirty years ago, but I don’t know that I’ve seen anything like this and it is really beginning to worry me.

My prayers go out to the families.

    Stress will out.

I only heard about the Washington shooting because it happened to come up yesterday in conversation. I might well have missed hearing about today’s shooting if I hadn’t decided to fish around for news of shenanigans in congress.

Well, not so much under a rock as in the ROK…but in any case, yes, a total nightmare. I’ve found myself as a local ambassador of sorts regarding this heinous tragedy, and the only useful thing I’ve managed to say is that I feel strangely blessed to live in a place where such horrid acts are nationally and internationally recognized and mourned as unusual and especially terrible, as opposed to part of the normal landscape.

    1. Thus proving that “gun free zones” are anything but.
    2. Conneticut is number #7 out of the 10 most restricted states for guns. How is that “gun control” working out for you there Left Coast? No so much, huh….
    3. The main-stream liberal press so blatantly leaves out the facts of the case and then when they do come to light, the legal owner of the weapons is painted as a “prepper” nut job.
    4. Ed Schultz of MSNBC Tweeted about confiscation this weekend. Imagine that…?
