As Gaius says in his take on the growing scandal of ACORN’s efforts to register ficticious voters:
“Opposition to voter IDs is support for voter fraud. Period.”.
Indeed. Nor is this the first time ACORN staffers has tried to cheat the system.
Acorn and its affiliates have pulled some real stunts in recent years. In Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. During a Congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials from several counties in the state explained Acorn’s practice of dumping thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even though the forms had been collected months earlier.
ACORN has exhibited a pattern of abuse. In 2003 it was fined by the National Labor Relations Board because it had blocked attempts by it’s own workers to unionize.
It paid people to collect voter registration cards in Florida in violation of the law. It took kickbacks from the Teamstes in 1996 to funnel money back to Ron Carey’s 1union leadership race. ACORN set up a phony front group in 1996 to take money from AmeriCorps. In direct violation of the law it used that for political advocacy.Â
And on, and on and on. ACORN is the pin-up girl for Liberal Activism…it matters not how you get there or who you screw so long as your intent is politically correct. That is also known as Stalinism.Â
