Is the Jheri-Curl addling Rangel?

Once again Charles Rangel has raised the issue of a draft.  Personally, I don’t believe a single reason he gives. Some think that this actually might have a beneficial impact on society, such as The Anti-idiotarian Rottweiler.

Not to mention that the mere thought of a bunch of unkempt, unwashed, latte-swilling trust fund kiddies dragged from their Starbucks, given a haircut and a hosing and forced into uniform fills my evil heart with all kinds of fuzzy feelings.

Unfortunately the harm done to the military more than offsets the joy of having some maggot get right.  I joined Mr. Carter’s army I can tell you first hand what a ple of crap it was.  The Draft had nearly detroyed the institution.  While the army made an amazing transition under Ronald Reagan it was still an army that had to use comic books to train many of the troops.

It was an unforseen side effect of Clinton’s downsizing of the military that has produced the amazing military we have today.  Faced with being forced to field a much smaller army the decision was made to go down to a size that was sustainable by only accepting the best of the best.

That’s the army we have today.  We need to try hard to keep it this way.
