This is, perhaps, the most glaring example of MSM bias I have ever seen. Rep. Tom Tancredo proposed an amendment to the Homeland Security Funding Bill now before the House. It passed easily.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House on Friday voted to withhold federal emergency services funding from so-called sanctuary cities that protect illegal immigrants.Illegal immigration opponent Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., sponsored the measure, which he says would apply to cities such as Denver and Boulder. He was elated by its passage, which stunned critics and supporters alike.
Not only did every Republican support this measure…fifty Democrat Congressmen voted for it! That’s simply stunning when Nancy Pilosi needs Republicans to cross over and vote for the Immigration “Compromise”.
It’s even more stunning when you find that only a handful of newspapers carried the story. Go ahead, do a search in the news for this story…we’ll wait.
See?
Search the New York Times.
Nada.
Now do a search of blogs that covered it. The only ones that pull in the first two pages are Blue Crab Boulevard and World Net Daily. That’s simply stunning.
If I were some sort of Conspiracy Nut I’d think there was a concerted effort by the MSM to “spike” the story. But it gets even better. Fox News did have a story about Tom Tancredo trying to block funds to “Sanctuary Cities”.
The days of the sanctuary policy might be numbered. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. (search), has offered an amendment to two appropriations bills that would bar federal funding to states and localities that restrict any government agency from sending information to, or receiving information from, federal immigration authorities regarding an individual’s citizenship or immigration status.
This story is dated Friday, July 25, 2003. Yup…almost four years ago Tancredo has been trying to get legislation passed. Most of that time the House was controlled by Republicans! And now when we see what is clearly a sea Change in support for curbing illegal immigrants The MSM barely notices.
And by the MSM not noticing the story has been missed by virtually every blogger of both sides. With the Notable exceptions of TalkLeft, MediaMatters.com and DU as well as those I mentioned earlier.
