George Takei has wed his partner of 21 years Brad Altman.
Takei, 71, and Brad Altman, 54, were pronounced “spouses for life”.Two hundred guests attended the emotional ceremony in downtown Los Angeles. Takei’s Star Trek co-stars, Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura) and Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov), were maid of honour and best man respectively.
To echo Takei’s quote: That’s longer than many straight people.
One of the reason’s that society recognizes marriage is the special exemptions that it gives to promote the institution. In that an intact family with a mother and a father produces better members of our society.
I wish Takei and his partner the best…but we need to establish a legal way for same sex couples to “marry” without the special benefits that hetro couples enjoy..yet still give a partner the right to sit by the side of his husband when he is sick.
Hm. This argument, same-sex relationships lasting longer than hetero, has never held water. If you make a choice and stick with it, great. It has little to do with sexuality.
I have been married to the same woman for 13 years and I am half Takei’s age. My parents have been married some 45+ years (guessing) and they are almost his age.
Have they forgotten that AIDS became an epidemic because of promiscuity, largely on the homosexual side? Mostly the male homosexuals, at that.
Don’t force me to recognize your relationship as being as valid as mine because same-sex couples are a DEAD END.
