In the orgy of spending outlined in the “stimulus” package, The One wants to cut federal spending in certain areas. This only seems prudent to help balance the budget no?
The Obama administration has asked the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon’s budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent—about $55 billion—a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News.Last year’s defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend “burning the midnight oil” looking at ways to cut the budget—looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.

Not surprising at all. ‘Course, the most straightforward way to do that would be to shrink the force. It worked out so well in the 90s, why don’t we do it again?
Frankly, I was expecting this. I’ve been in a funk off and on since the election, in part because I figured this would make it harder for me to get a job with the place I want to find employment at. One caveat however, I think that if we get nuked by the Salafi, they will smuggle it in. Compared to making development and smuggling easier, I don’t think shutting down ABM defence research is all that damaging. Can we still hope Obama won’t cut the training budget? Yes we can.
By the way, has anyone else see the Bob the Builder comic someone drew for the internet where Bob started by cutting the girl/love interest in half with a chainsaw? Bob the Builder: Can we fix it? BtB: I said … Can we fix it? Talking Earthmover: Er… Yes. Yes we can.
I’d better not say what’s in my head right now. “Big Brother” is watching.
As I posted over on my LJ, this is the “fuck you, we won” dividend for the Demorats.
Though I’m not sure why buying, say, 100 KC-777s wouldn’t be an economic stimulus.
Found something interesting:

Basically, it appears that the non-war cap is $527bn, which is an increase on last year’s $487.7bn budget, but a decrease from the $584bn draft 2010 budget.
So, some interesting perspective. Always, always double-check your data.
Yeah, I saw that one later as well. I suppose it’s too early to start sharp-shooting the FY10 budget. We’ll have plenty of opportunity for that later.
