My Favorite Scandals of the Past Year

Democrats don’t seem to get much coverage from the press on these things so I guess I might as well do it.  After all, the scandals are growing at a geometric rate right now and I figured I better start documenting them before a few slip through the cracks.

It’s for the children after all.

So I offer these up in no particular order (mostly because I’m lazy).

Rod Blagojevich (D)

Former governor of Illinois who just got booted for attempting to sell Barack Obama’s senate seat.  He has the distinction of being one of eight sitting governors to get launched out of office.  Awesome.

Eliot Spitzer (D)

Former governor of New York who stepped down in the wake of a sex scandal, where he was dallying with a high priced call girl.  And kind of a hot one to boot.

Kwame Kilpatrick (D)

Former mayor of Motown and up until recently the distinguished guest of honor at the Wayne County jail.  He was wrapped up in some sort of sex scandal involving his female chief of staff who pretty much looks like a drag queen (that’s her sitting next to him in the picture).  The genius was busted after his text messages were used as evidence in court, which means MENSA won’t be offering him an honorable membership anytime soon.

William Jefferson (D)

The congressman was recently ousted due to a bribery scandal involving $90,000 found his freezer.  This probably had no connection with the 2005 incident where he commandeered National Guard personnel and equipment after Hurricane Katrina to retrieve personal belongings from his home.

Do National Guard troops work for congressmen or the governor?  I forget.  There’s probably some language in Title 10 or Posse Comitatus, but I’m a little fuzzy on the details.

Tom Daschle (D)

Former senator and member of the Senate Finance Committee was selected to be Obama’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, but had to tuck his tail between his legs after it was revealed that he neglected to pay $128,000 in taxes.  He says he feels really bad about it.  So I guess I believe him.

Timothy Geithner (D)

Just confirmed as Treasury Secretary, he was forced to admit that he “forgot” to pay $34,000 in back taxes.  I’m sure he won’t run into that problem ever again since he’ll be in charge of the IRS.

 Nancy Killefer (D)

Selected to serve in the Obama administration as Chief Performance Officer, she had to back out as well over “tax issues” that could potentially “distract from her confirmation.”  We don’t want to be bothered with pesky distractions after all.

Honestly, I look forward to the next four years as I am sure there will be no shortage of blog-fodder for Yours Truly.

If any of you out there have any more fairly recent Democrat scandals I’d love to hear ‘em.

Update:  Shit!  I totally forgot about Chris Dodd.  It’s a good thing I am writing these down.

Update II:  Woohoo!  Here’s another sweet nomination I just stumbled across!  Not really scandalous yet, but still entertaining nonetheless.

Update III:  A very nice rollup from our friend Madoc.  Thanks Chuckles for the heads up!

Don’t forget, Baltimore Mayor Sheila A. Dixon was charged with 12 counts of felony theft, perjury, fraud and misconduct in office, becoming the city’s first sitting mayor to be criminally indicted.

You totally neglected John Edwards and his love child! And what about Caroline Kennedy and her senate attempt? Wasn’t there a nannygate issue there? Or is that a 2009 issue? You also forgot about Bill Richardson in NM, too. Hmm, I’m sure I can think of some more. The only station we can pick up in the break room at work is Fox News, which is scandal central.
