Patrick Kennedy’s Addiction

Rep. Kennedy has released a statement that he is seeking counseling at Mayo Clinic.  A place he visited last winter to overcome an addiction to prescription pain killers. He is going there again.

WASHINGTON - Rep. Patrick Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) said Friday he was entering treatment for addiction to prescription pain drugs after a middle-of-the-night car crash near the Capitol that he said he had no memory of. “That’s not how I want to live my life,” he declared.

I admire Kennedy’s openness about his long running battle with drug addiction and wish him the best.

What I want to know, given Kennedy’s long standing acknowledgement of a drug problem who gave him the pills? Did a doctor knowingly give this man pain pills?  And if so…why?  Were prescriptions forged for him?  And if so…why weren’t those people punished?

I want a federal prosecutor to force every doctor Kennedy has seen to turn over their records.  If they refuse I expect that prosecutor to spend any amount of money required to get them.  I want to know if Kennedy “doctor shopped”. If Kennedy illegally obtained prescription medication I expect him to either plead guilty to, or face trial for perscription fraud.

Particularly because, unlike other people, Kennedy revealed he had fallen off the wagon after a driving mishap.  Nor is this the first such incident.  Three weeks ago he was in a wreck with a car at a CVS.  Two weeks prior to that he was in an altercation at a airport security check point.

The difference between Limbaugh and Kennedy?  Kennedy waited till he almost killed a cop, until he had had two accidents, to admit he had a problem.  I think he should get the same treatment that Limbaugh received at the same cost to his personal fortune.

It’s only fair…no some pigs are more equal to other pigs here.

Update:  A witness comes forward and says Mr. Kennedy actually was drinking that evening.  After he said that he hadn’t been drinking at all?  I guess I’m not surprised.—Marcus

What I want to know, is why do people keep voting for him? He’s such a role model!

Blind devotion to “Camelot.” What the hell else could it possibly be?

“Camelot”? That piece of shit movie was on last night. Marcus, me thinks it has something to do with Shamu (previous thread). It’s just like all of the Daly family’s ‘voters’ in Chicago.

Patrick Kennedy, crashed his car during a drunken spree, adding to his long history of habitual drunkenness and substance abuse. Capitol Police extended him special treatment, due to his high office, and provided him a ride home instead of to the clink. Rep. Kennedy said he had no memory of the incident or the events surrounding it, although his memory seemed unimpaired to the police at the time of the accident. He assured the public that he would obtain the finest treatment available for the mysterious disease of addiction, the same treatment he’s received many times since the onset of his addictive disease in 1986. He spoke of himself as a heroic figure, as someone who has struggled with addictive disease most of his life. Then, he was quickly on his way to the Mayo Clinic addiction treatment program.Today, Mr. Kennedy was released from rehab, and at a press conference he assured the public and his constituency that his “treatment” for the disease of addiction will never be completed. He said he will remain “in recovery” for the rest of his days, diligently attending 12-step recovery group meetings in order to stave off his progressive, chronic disease. He assures us that he can never guarantee anyone that he won’t once again explode into drunkenness, and endanger the public by driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.——————————————-
