Traveling Plans

The MicroMammoth and I are making plans for a trip to the Great White North this summer for my 40th birthday. Unfortunately, QM will already have used up his holiday by then to celebrate his mother’s 80th birthday. Now it’s just a matter of planning the most economic and fun-filled route. I’ve pretty much decided to fly into Buffalo, as it’s an automatic savings not to fly across the border. From there we have to decide if we have parents come down to Buffalo to pick us up and drop us off, or if we take the Amtrak to Toronto and back. The only problem with the Amtrak is an 8:30am departure on the way home, which means a night in that Sin City of the North, Toronto. The MicroMammoth is very excited at the thought of a train trip, so I think we’ll have to squeeze it in at least one way. The rest will have to wait and see.

    Quit fishing. ;-)

Depending on the dates, you know y’all have a place to stay, including train pick-up / airport drop off, and the reverse.

But the dates are important, as this summer is already getting scheduled out to a fare thee well. :( Two family reunions back west, two different mundane-friend groups in town at different points, and the landlady’s clan at one point too, when I get kicked out. So it may just not work.

That being said, when is this?

Heeheehee! It’s only a possibility, but if it happens, it would be on July 17th. We may end up getting a hotel room with my Dad. My younger brother is living in Guelph, but that’s a bit of a hike for an early start. We were looking at the possibility of Via Rail from Sudbury, but man, the prices for a sleeper make me realize why I always traveled economy. Over $300 from Sudbury to Toronto??? And even then, we would have to leave the train station at 2:20am right after my B’Day. Eeeek!

I was afraid of that Mrs. QM.

July is a write-off for me, sorry. :-( Alberta, the Arizona clan, and some friends (mundanes) from S.C.

If I’m here at all though, love to meet up for coffee if nothing else.

Have you thought about flying Porter from the downtown island airport to Sudbury? http://www.flyporter.com

Email me when you have more details…

I found a bus that will take them from the airport to the AMTRAK station for $2.35 each. Then they will travel to Toronto for $52.00 each round trip. After that it is the job of the in-laws to bring woman and child to the homestead.

Or we could pay $500.00 each round trip in a 19 person executive jet to take them to Sudbury….right…..

It’s the job of the in-laws to pick up the woman and the child.

Didn’t know it was that much to Sudbury.

I can normally get flights down to NYC at $200 roundtrip, if I plan it correctly.

Porter is not 19 person executive jets but 70 person turboprops.

    shrugs

    Train is nice. :-)

That might have been Bear Air
