Intent on committing career suicide, Natalie Maines insists on showing herself to be a stupid twat.
he Chicks can’t hide their disgust at the lack of support they received from other country performers. “A lot of artists cashed in on being against what we said or what we stood for because that was promoting their career, which was a horrible thing to do,” says Robison.“A lot of pandering started going on, and you’d see soldiers and the American flag in every video. It became a sickening display of ultra-patriotism.”
“The entire country may disagree with me, but I don’t understand the necessity for patriotism,” Maines resumes, through gritted teeth. “Why do you have to be a patriot? About what? This land is our land? Why? You can like where you live and like your life, but as for loving the whole country… I don’t see why people care about patriotism.”
Now let’s ignore the politics of the statement, others do a great job of slamming her for that, and look at the total lack of business sense this blond bimbo has. Like it or not Country fans are patriots. It isn’t just for the moment as Maines implies. Lee Greenwood, a middle level singer at best, has made a living for the last fifteen years on one song…”proud to be an American”.
Maybe Pop and Alt fans will like the Chicks, but at this rate it will be a hard sell to Country Fans.

Update:Â Â Check out this post over at Flopping Aces.Â
A bluegrass trio isn’t going anywhere other than country.
Change the sound (probably needs to change instruments as a part of it) and they might have a chance. If they promote on the coasts and ignore fly-over country that chance improves, as it would redoing the current album in rap or something (especially the “death to amerikkka chants)
John
P.S. keep referring to Jim here if anyone else is slow on hitting GE’s bar.
The “Chicks” are on the outs I think. Give them a couple of years and they will be opening for Whitesnake on the “Ass End of Nowhere Tour.”
Wow, can she seem any more apathetic. There is nothing wrong with pride and patriotism. The Lee Greenwood comparision by QM was right on. America is looking for that patriotic flavor lately and will even pay for the third rate hacks to perform with it. Do you seen may pickups driving around with ‘Screw the Troops, Hug a Tree” bumper stickers? How has she not figured out that her demographic audience loves: trucks, guns beer, dogs, hunting, occasionally their wives, boobs and America?
Man, I should write a post titles “Trucks, guns, beer, dogs, hunting, (wives on occasion), boobs and America!”
I think it would be popular.
just anothere example of the mentality of the left wing. they don’t understand us at all. we understand them well enough, . about on the order of I understand a rattlesnake. I don’t have to appreciate his cultural upbringing or see his viewpoint to understand it’s a potential danger to myself or my kids. Rattlesnake, evaluate, kill or don’t kill, check for others in area. no problem. Dixie Chicks. evaluate. can’t kill, don’t have to listen, won’t buy records, change station that does play them, tell sponsers I won’t buy their junk if they sponser Dizity chicks, no problem.
You may understand them, but you DARE question their patriotism!
QM is right. Leaving the politics out of it, Natalie Maines is a blithering idiot when it comes to business. The trio does great music…and if they’d just shut up and do that everything would have been okay. But no, she has to shoot off her mouth, whanging on all the musicians who are patriots. “I don’t understand patriotism,” she whines. But her customers do. And that’s the problem. Even Toby Keith has said things like, “I don’t agree with this war. I am a Democrat. But I am not going to diss the American soldier. I may not support the war, but I sure support the troops.” And so he does, having spent almost every holiday since 2002 in war zones, entertaining troops while wearing armor because he entertains at forward fire bases.
There’s a reason Toby owns his own label, and is the richest country singer after Garth Brooks…and there’s a reason Natalie Maines can’t sell tickets to her tour, which has had many venues cancel her.
Too bad. I really liked their music. But I won’t play it, won’t listen to it, and like most other country fans, will change the station if it comes on.
Maybe they can go back to entertaining at the Lone Star Cafe in Austin.
